If you haven't heard of Heartstopper then where have you been for the past week? The brand-new Netflix series hit our screens a week ago and it's all anyone is talking about.
Based on the books by Alice Oseman, the show follows Charlie Spring and Nick Nelson exploring their friendship as they navigate young love and the torments of secondary school.
Before watching the show, I'd never heard of Heartstopper but I can officially say it's all I've spoken about since.
The show warmed my heart and pulled at it, all at the same time. With the adoration for Nick and Charlie's relationship with the contraction of the struggles discovering your sexuality can bring.

Heartstopper is a show that the world needs right now, touching on the exploration of your sexuality, encompassing the LGBTQ+ community in the absolute best way a TV show could and also creating a TV that spoke to everyone and not just the mainstream viewers.
The entire storyline for me was immaculate. I felt like every detail and scene was necessary and needed to draw you into these teens' lives that have truly become comfort characters for me.
Charlie Spring carries the weight of being the gay kid in school who faces the bullies day in and day out as well as struggling with loving himself. This is something I really hope if we have a series 2 they delve into more. Seeing the struggles behind the scenes is something that I would love to be highlighted and broadcasted for more to understand. During the series, we are aware that Charlie is very comfortable with his sexuality but seems to see it as a burden for others who are with him.

Conflicting Charlie, Nick is the head of the rugby team and has never really thought about his sexuality before meeting Charlie and we see a character discover who is underneath the stereotypical rugby lad persona that he is known for within the school. Nick also has a loving relationship with his mother. This relationship was one that had me on the brink of tears multiple times with her trying to understand Nick and Charlie's friendship whilst Nick tries to find a way to speak to his mum about his relationship with Charlie.
As well as these two incredible leads, the side characters were also phenomenal. I loved and hated Tao all at the same time but he had me in stitches, Elle had my entire heart, Isaac is an icon inside and out and I adored Tara and Darcy.

It has been really long time since I finished a show and automatically wanted to start it again and Heartstopper made me do exactly that. After 3 full watches, I have grown a really special place in my heart for this incredible show and I'm sure it is sitting comfortably in so many other people's hearts too.
This coming-of-age TV show is one that everyone should invest time into and understand how it transpires into so many people's lives that are around you.
Heartstopper please be back for a season 2, I BEG!!!
